respective fields.
Fog
City Investigations was started in 1989 and formally established
in 1991 by me, Douglas Hansen, while I worked for the San
Francisco Police Department. Based on my reputation for honesty
and hard work, San Francisco and building officials asked
me to set up and manage a large security task force to help
the city build a multi-million dollar housing project being
developed in the Bay View/Hunters Point area of San Francisco.
This area is well known for it's gangs, drugs, and the violence
they cause, leading to the highest gang/homicide rate in the
city. During this time, I was was working with the Department's
rapid response "Housing Task Force", which responded
to all calls for police assistance emanating from the Gang
infested low-income housing units. I was granted permission
by my department, (Captain Gamez)to take a leave of absence
and handle this complex assignment. This separation from the
department enabled me to form a complete security company
so I could devote 100% of my time to this complicated and
many times dangerous assignment. One night while guarding
equipment at this new complex, someone with a large caliber
weapon opened fire on me placing all the shots around me.
This was a message telling me to watch my back. Since I could
not call 911 for police help (I refused to pay my superiors
kickbacks from the six figure security contract) I set up
a meeting with the gang leaders and worked out an arrangement
that guaranteed my safety and the safety of twenty-five officers
working for me. During this meeting I learned that the gangs
not only liked me, but respected me for my honesty. I was
told they were actually looking out for my safety and would
not harm me. They learned certain police officials were very
upset with me for not letting them in on the security contract
which was almost two hundred thousand dollars. I was advised
to watch my back from jealous officers and that if I called
911 for help, it would go unanswered. One of the gang leaders
gave me his pager number and told me to call should I need
help.
After
I successfully completed this project, I was asked to provide
armed security agents for Sumitomo Banks located in San Francisco
and Oakland. After completing this latter assignment, I returned
to the police department, and retired four years later. I
decided to devote all my time to my new security and investigation
business. I liked working with a wide range of clients, from
the "Rich and Famous" to the everyday client.

On
June 21, 2006, CBS NEWS, Channel 5 in San Francisco, did a
story on "Information Brokers" and featured"Fog
City Investigations" in their story. I am known as
a venerated private investigator. I was called upon by CBS
news management to do an interview on "Personal Privacy"
and to talk about how data brokers routinely sell personal
information on individuals, as well as commercial information
on businesses. The story was well received and aired twice
on TV. I did a great job explaining what "personal"
and "commercial" information is, how it affects
everyone, and how brokers get it, legal and otherwise.
Our
Professional Investigative Achievements
Include
After
earning a degree in Criminal Justice, I worked over 23 years
as a law enforcement official conducting in-depth criminal
investigations. I have qualified as an investigative expert
throughout the country, and testify accordingly in court.
I am a graduate and Valedictorian of four Major Law Enforcement
Academies, and have completed numerous investigative and administrative
training programs over a 30 year period. Some of my most notable
accomplishments include, but are not limited to:
United
States Drug Enforcement Special Agent Academy, United States
Drug Enforcement Administration, Washington, DC
(Valedictorian).
South Dakota Highway Patrol/State Municipal Police Academy,
Pierre, SD. (Rank 2nd)
California Department of Corrections, San Quentin, CA (Valedictorian).
San Francisco Police Academy, San Francisco, CA (Valedictorian).
Advanced
P.O.S.T. Certificate, "California
Peace Officer Standards of Training"
While
working as a Police Investigator, I received two medals of
valor involving firearms and shootings, three Police Commission
Commendations from the S.F.P.D., One Federal Bureau of Investigation
Commendation (FBI) for responding
to a Bank Robbery in progress and apprehending FIVE ARMED
BANK ROBBERS, without firing a shot from my Thompson .45 Caliber
machine gun. A weapon from World War Two. This was the weapon
I chose to carry in the trunk of my car while working as an
under cover agent for a Ten county narcotics Task Force. I
also earned over 300 Captain Commendations for heroism and
outstanding police work while working for the San Francisco
Police Department.
My most notable criminal court case, as a private investigator,
was the People v Burleson (1995 - 2000). A complex criminal
case involving, Domestic Violence, by a convicted murderer
diagnosed as criminally insane, and possessing a genius "IQ",
(The Real Hannibal) He was facing California's "Three
Strikes" law, & life in prison, regardless of the
current verdict for Stalking, aggravated assault, and terrorist
threats via the tape recordings of 19 hours of terrifying
phone calls where the suspect told the victim, his wife, how
he was going to murder her elderly parents in the most horrifying
fashion. After listening to these tapes and listening to this
monster talk for months, including the murder of my own father,
(the prison grapevine knows all), I was pushed to far. I finished
the court case and actually got his assault charges "Found
Not Guilty" by the jury, due to an outstanding job of
using experts. This case was so horrifying, that it shook
me to my core and I refused to do these defense cases for
the next ten years.
My most notable in-depth civil case took almost two years
to complete, (2004 - 2006), and literally saved a corporation
the sum of "one hundred and fifty million dollars".
I was able to expose the perpetrator to my client within days
of my client losing control of the family corporation to a
very clever ex-convict.
